8 1/2"h x 6 1/2"w book lined by hand for a financial journal. The front cover and the first 26 pages are gone, which is a great pity because that was probably where the information about the bookkeeper was written. The first visible date is 1798; the last is 1803. The book was kept in ink with a very fine point pen. There are several loose sheets in the book. One has a wonderful drawing on its back, as does the inside back cover and back cover. Most of the book is left page for charges, right page for credit. The bookkeeper had some association with Charlotte Hall School; he or she may have run a boarding house for students or run the kitchen for the school. There may also be a store involved.
