One 8"h x 10"w black and white photograph of the interior of Cecil's IGA store in Leonardtown. The store was located in the Duke Building, facing Washington Street and the square, but not on the corner. The store appeared to be narrow and somewhat dark, although two light globes and a bare light bulb are visible in the picture. Three young men were standing in the middle ground of the photo: James W. (Jimmy) Mattingly, Jr. on the left, who was the manager, Charles E. Fenwick in the middle, and William F. (Froggy) Connelly, Jr. on the right. Mr. Mattingly had on a white shirt, dark tie, and dark sweater under a soiled apron. Mr. Fenwick had on a white shirt and dark bow tie under his white apron. Mr. Mattingly had on a white shirt, but no tie under his white apron. His sleeves were rolled up. In the left foreground were two open boxes propped on a rack--they may have held dried fruit. Behind those boxes was a large white scale and several covered containers. To the left of the scale were large covered boxes that said "Biscuits." On the right was a bushel basket of loose nuts. Next were two racks wrapped in faux brick paper with nuts and maybe candy. There were paper swags of holly leaves on the racks which would lead one to think of Christmas time, but the lone customer in the store was dressed in a light colored short sleeve dress without a coat. All the walls were lined with shelves of canned goods. A long butcher case and a refrigerated dairy case were across the back quarter of the store. On the left wall on the top shelf were large bags of flour. The customer's hands were not visible so one can't tell if she had her own basket. She certainly did not have a wheeled cart.
