Photo of an engraving made from an early photograph of Anna Ella Carroll. Miss Carroll was reputedly a brilliant woman who helped the national government during the Civil War. Her dark curly hair was parted in the middle and curled away from her face. Her hair appeared to be short. She had a round face and would probably be called "plump." Her chest and shoulders were exposed and she had on a dark dress with a hint of white material framing her shoulders and an endless knot pin in the center of her decolletage. The sleeves of the dress were short, but were extended partway down her upper arm by lace trim. Her bodice came to a V in front and her skirt was tightly gathered. In the lower left corner of the image, following the angle of Miss Carroll's lower arm, it says "M.B. Brady Dag." presumably for daguerreotypist. In the lower right corner at a similar angle is "J. C. Battre Engr" for engraver. Below her image is the catchphrase for the exhibit, "Celebrating the Women of St. Mary's County's Past."Collection
