Black and white 3 1/2"h x 3 1/2"w photo of Bachelor's Hope. This side of the house shows the portico and exposed stairway. The central portion of the building is two stories with a hipped roof. There is a one story brick wing on each side, also with hipped roofs. On the right, a clapboard addition has been attached to the wing, but it is hardly visible in this photo. There is a single outside end chimney at each end of the two story portion of the house. There are no dormers. On the second floor are three nine over nine windows. The portico has four stout posts and a simple, but elegant, frieze and verge board. There is a central door with two square panels on top, two rectangular windows above the doorknob, and six square panels below the doorknob. There is a single window on each side of the door. The right window is somewhat obscured by the stairway. There is a bench on the portico. The trim paint is cleverly done. There are two large nine over nine windows in the left wing and the same number and style in the right wing. A wide drive curves in front of the house.
