Bathing beach 2Entry/Object ID
2001.001.0003Description
The front of this postcard is a sepia-toned photograph of a group of adults and children bathing and lounging on the beach of a large body of water. The location is not identified, but since it is with other cards of Saint Mary's County, it is likely to be a Saint Mary's County scene as well. There is quite a crowd. The photographer is on the beach looking toward the water. A portion of the shore is staked and netted to delineate the swimming area. There are flags on some stakes and a light on the tallest post. The male bathers have dark short sleeved shirts and dark shorts on--many with white trim. The women have on dark outfits with short sleeves and skirts that appear to come to their knees. Most of the men on dry land appear to be wearing straw hats or derbies and dark suits. The woman have on full length skirts, light colored shirtwaists, and carry dark umbrellas. There are several bicycles visible. Some unidentifiable structure looms out of the water in the middle distance and there may be a sailboat on the horizon. On the address side of the card, small type says this card is part of the "Anglo life series." The card is bisected by a black line slightly left of center, with the left side for correspondence and the right for address only. This card was never used.Collection
