Confederate Battle flag of the Army of Northern VirginiaEntry/Object ID
2015.001.0002Description
17"w x 11 1/2"h dark red flag with St. Andrew's cross in dull dark blue outlined in a narrow beige stripe and 13 beige stars on the arms of the cross. This is the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia or the second Navy jack of the Confederate Navy. Over time, it has come to represent the Confederacy in the 21st century mind. This flag is old, but it is likely a 20th century version, since it is machine sewn on the edges. The top edge was not rolled correctly and has frayed. The fabric was very inexpensive. The piece has been folded for so long that it is unlikely to ever be completely flat again.Collection
