Sepia-tone photograph on board 6 3/8"h x 4 3/16"w of Bertie Downs. This woman appears to be quite young. She has curly hair with curly bangs, some curls piled on her head, and the rest of her hair pulled back behind her ears and gathered at the nape of her neck. Her face does not have much definition beyond a very straight nose. She has heavy eyebrows. Her dress is neither dark nor light and seems to be plain material. She has a high collar and interesting lace or crocheted flowerettes that droop over the collar--seven are visible in the photo. For jewelry, she has earrings and a bar pin at her throat, a larger one than most of the others I have seen. Her dress buttons down the front and the buttons appear to be metal. A pleat begins on each side where the shoulder seam joins the collar and falls down the bodice, possibly to the side seam at the waist. Her sleeves are just slightly puffed at the shoulder. In the wide space at the bottom of the photo is "Blessing & Kuhn Baltimore" in gold script. A red line has been added to the beveled edge of the board to help frame the image.

Text on verso: "Bertie Downs [in pencil] Blessing & Kuhn No. 46 N. Charles St., Baltimore [stamped in red]" There is no explanation about this woman's connection to the Fenwick family. This piece was loose in the back of the dark red photograph album.Collection
