5 1/2"h x 3 7/8"w portrait orientation sepia tone scan of a professional photo of Mary Bertha [known as Birdie] Goldsborough, age 12 and Rosalie Corrine Goldsborough, age 5. The older girl was standing in front of the photographer's backdrop with her left hand on a chair. She had dark hair that fell below her shoulders. She had the typical large bow on the top of her head. She had on a dark dress with a white dickey inset. There were wide collars on each shoulder decorated with elaborate soutache. She had long sleeves with dark velvet? cuffs. She wore a narrow belt and the plain skirt fell to just below her knees. She had on high shoes and dark stockings. Her younger sister was seated on the aforementioned chair. She also had dark hair that fell just to her shoulders and was elaborately curled. Her big bow was just off to the side. Her dress may have been a heavy colored pinafore with a wide collar. It had long sleeves and the skirt may have come between the knee and ankle. The little girl had her hands in her lap and one hand held a small dark purse. She also had high shoes with dark stockings. The older girl had a small smile, but the younger girl just wished for the ordeal to be over. There is no identification of the photographer. ************************************ Text on verso: in pencil "Rose married V. Smeigh ... daughter of Mary Bertha Goldsborough Chronister who was a daughter of Mary C. Russell married to Charles E. Goldsborough" and on accompanying sheet "Mary Bertha Goldsborough 'Birdie' Age 12 yrs. Rosalie Corrine Goldsborough Age 5 yrs. daughters of Charles Edward and Mary Catherine Goldsborough Mary Catherine was the daughter of Joseph and Catherine Thompson Russell"
