2015.001.0003Description
This 108"l x 83"w blanket is reputed to have belonged to Congressman Benjamin Gwinn Harris and to have been made from wool of sheep raised on Ellenborough, carded, spun, dyed and woven there. It is very thin--I hope Mr. Harris had more than one. There are colored stripes in the blanket on a bleached wool background. At the top and bottom the progression is: 1/16" gold, background, 1/4" gold, background, 3/4" red, 5/8" blue, 1/2" gold, 3/8" black, 3/4"red,5/8" brown, 5/8" gold, 1/2" blue, background, 1/4" gold, background, 1/16" gold. On the long sides there is 1/16" red, background, 5/8" red, background, 1/16" red. In one corner there is a black cross stitch set of initials: B G H.
