15 1/2"h x 30"w blueprints in five sheets for Red Gate Tavern, Walter L. Craig, owner and R. I. Vaughn, architect. There are no electrical or mechanical sheets.
February 11, 1946 Sheet 1 shows the front elevation of a two story central structure with a long wing on each side. Asbestos shingles and roofing were specified. The large sign "W. L. Craig, Prop. Red Gate Tavern" on the building was between two small six-light windows. There were two eight-light windows on the second floor and an eyebrow window with a keystone in the peak. The building had a gable roof and the viewer is looking at a gable end. There was a chimney on the roof peak of the left wing close to the central bloc. Each wing also had a gable roof at ninety degrees to the central bloc. The entry doors were on each side of the central bloc with light fixtures over each door and there may have been a small roof over each door. The left wing had a six light window, two door openings, and one more six light window near the left end. The right wing had three six light windows on the left half of the space, but no windows toward the right.
Sheet 2 showed a cross section, a longitudinal section of the entire building, and the right side elevation. The two sections showed the placement of the footings. The right side elevation showed a one story additional space on the back of the building. It had a flat roof and there was a second story screened porch on top of the space. There was a small two light window, likely a bathroom window, toward the back of the second story and a pair of eight light windows toward the front.
Sheet 3 showed the footings and posts for the first floor.
Sheet 4 showed the first floor plan. The central bloc and most of the right wing were open space labeled "Dine & Dance Area" with booths on the long walls. There was an exit door in the back wall, shortening one row of booths. At the far end of the right wing was a stage of about 20' at the footlights with a small dressing room on each side. The additional space on the back of the central bloc was labeled "Storage," as was an 18' room in the left wing. The kitchen was also in that wing, with a range, grill and deep fat fryer, three sinks and an "electric refrigerator." Beyond that was a 23' by 14' space labeled "Barber Shop." This explained the two additional doors on Sheet 1. The alcohol bar was on the front of the central bloc and a long food bar was on the left long wall between the big room and the kitchen. This view shows an uncovered porch on the front of and for the length of each wing.
Sheet 5 showed the floor plan of the second floor. There were three bedrooms, a living room, 1 bathroom, and the screened porch. No kitchen. Possibly the space was used as a brothel.Collection
