For whatever reason, John Bohanan (1811-1871) was the executor of William F. Benson's estate. The earliest dated document is from May 22, 1853 in which a commissioner of the Orphan's Court submits a bill for services. The next significant document is the March, 1859 court decree directing the sale of the land that is part of the estate to satisfy the claims of various heirs, both Sanner and Benson. The sale was held June 12, 1859 with the land purchased by George M. Bohanan for $1,530. Tax bills and attorney's bills follow, including a bill for the auditor's report on the sale. The auditor submitted a bill for services on November 23, 1863. His report was very ragged and has been separately encapsulated. Mr. Bohanan paid a number of claims against the estate in November of 1866, in 1869, 1870, and the Sanners laid claim to additional money from Mr. Bohanan even after his death. After final bills and costs, the widow was to receive $156 and each of five children to receive $147. Mr. Bohanan was sued on several occasions by service providers and relatives who had claims against the estate. The indications are that Mr. Bohanan lost every time. There is a very ragged undated draft of a document for a piece of land called Part Addition and Temple Bar that was bought by John Bohanan from the estate and declared to be the property of George M. Bohanan. The draft further discusses the mortgage arrangements for the property. The document is not signed [nor is there an obvious final version in the papers].Collection
