In April of 1863, Mr. Bohanan paid a bill for the 1862 labor of one man owned by the Brome family. There are many communications with Neale, Harris & Co. in Baltimore. This company sold Mr. Bohanan's tobacco and other produce and provided and shipped groceries, etc. on account. The clerk at this enterprise was inappropriately proud of elaborate handwriting that is completely illegible. The steamer used for transport was usually identified, as was the Captain of the vessel. In August, a note for $66.00, first opened in 1857, was finally paid off to J. C. Burroughs. On October 26, a Lt. Brown recruited a slave belonging to Bohanan into the Union Army and provided a receipt so Mr. Bohanan could seek compensation for the loss of his property.Collection
