There are many communications with Neale, Harris & Co. and other firms in Baltimore. These companies sold Mr. Bohanan's tobacco and other produce and provided and shipped groceries, etc. on account. The steamer used for transport was usually identified, as was the Captain of the vessel. In 1862, John Bohanan and William Hilton borrowed $64 from H.P. Combs and George M. Bohanan and finally paid it off in November, 1864. There is another receipt from the Bromes for labor provided to Bohanan in 1862. A June 9, 1865 letter from J. F. Bohanan has some information on the process of claiming a slave bounty. There are several local tax bills and a receipt for federal excise taxes on income of $36.74. The final document in this group is a contract between Bohanan and Ben Burton in which Bohanan rents a farm to Burton with the proviso that Burton must work for Bohanan on demand at the prevailing wage rate.Collection
