Bohanan Family Papers--Bohanan, John (1811-1871)--1870-1871Entry/Object ID

27 pieces of varying sizes in 17 wrappers
One wrapper has several lists and receipts in it relating to a shopping trip to Baltimore and also contains a piece of black and white material that was somehow important to the trip. There are several tax bills. There are receipts for payment on Mr. Bohanan's life insurance policy. When Mr. Bohanan died in the spring of 1871, his widow claimed against the policy and received $940 out of a possible $1000. An earlier application for insurance had indicated he intended to insure himself for $2000, but that must not have been what he finally purchased. One of the receipts indicates Mr. Bohanan's wife's name was Parmelia; her name had not appeared before. It is not clear if this were Mr. Bohanan's only wife. There are two pieces indicating Mr. Bohanan was either involved in court proceedings to establish guardianship over C. J. M. Bohanan or else someone was challenging his guardianship of this child. There are a few judgments included in the group.Collection
