Scope and Content

32 pieces of varying sizes William Bohanan, Jonathan Bohanan's son, purchased Pleasant Harbor, a tract of approximately 43 acres in 1838. Elias Milburn held the land because of the default of Jonathan Bohanan and Jeremiah Sanner. Thereafter follow tax bills for the 1840s and paperwork associated with two judgments against Mr. Bohanan in 1848. There is an interesting long agreement between William Bohanan and Francis L. Smith in 1849 which may amount to the trading of a mill and store for a farm. Mr. Bohanan seems to have been deeply in debt in 1849 and 1850; there are several judgments against him at that time. Mr. Bohanan apparently died during a trip to Baltimore in November, 1850 and a letter from the coroner there shows the cost for Mr. Bohanan's shroud and coffin and that the money found on his person paid for these items with $3.82 left over. Tax bills continued to come to Wm. Bohanan through 1852. It was up to John Bohanan to pay the taxes and other debts of his brother.
