Description

This book (8 3/8”h x 13 1/8”w x ½”d) had heavy cardboard covers. Most of the front cover was snapped off long ago. The cover refused to lie back flat, so it must have been annoying to use the book. Many loose receipts and small sheets of paper were tucked into the left edge and occur throughout the book. The pages were specific to bond activity. The pages were not numbered. On the upper right was “Account No._____” In the upper left was “Sheet No.______” In the center were two lines for Name and Address, usually the name of a post office. The columns on the front and back of a page were arranged slightly differently to make a blank space near the spine on each side. Side A: Column 1: Blank, Column 2: Number [of bond], Column 3: Date, Column 4: Withdrawn, Column 5: Issue, Column 6: Rate, Column 7: Interest Payable, Column 8: When Due, Column 9: Denomination, Column 10: Total Amount, Column 11: Date, Column 12: Coupons Withdrawn or Deposits, Column 13: Interest Due Side B: Column 1: Number, Column 2: Date, Column 3: Withdrawn, Column 4: Issue, Column 5: Rate, Column 6: Interest Payable, Column 7: When Due, Column 8: Denomination, Column 9: Total Amount, Column 10: Date, Column 11: Coupons Withdrawn or Deposit, Column 12: Interest Due, Column 13: Blank Some bonds were redeemed, others called, some sold. The proceeds were applied to an individual’s account, used for collateral, or placed in a savings account. Sometimes the result was illegible. About half of the pages in the book were used. ************************************************************* Text on Verso: N/A
