Copy of a Book of Common Prayer. The title page and first 38 pages of the book are missing. It is dark brown leather with a 2 3/8" cross on the front and back covers with the name "Betty Blackiston" in uppercase letters under the cross on the front cover. Two lines of gold make a 4 7/8" frame for the cross, there is a 1/8" indentation after that and another thin gold line is 1/8" in from the edges of the covers. On the spine are six horizontal rectangles traced in gold and "Common Prayer" is in uppercase letters in the rectangle second from the top. The edges of the pages are gilded, although much worn. "Miss Bettie Blackiston Leonardtown, Md" is scrawled in pencil on the inside front cover. There is more childish writing on the inside back cover. There is an engraving of the descent from the cross after page 148. Tucked inside the front cover is a news article about the death in 1928 of Martha Lou Dent, 12 years old, daughter of W. Gilbert and Pattie Dent.Collection
