Description

Company B is on parade or being inspected in front of a large, two story, painted brick building with a three-bay, two story porch projecting from the building. Round pillars, in need of paint, support the second floor of the porch and its roof. The second story of the porch has a railing which appears to be wrought iron with 3 horizontal rails and plain vertical poles alternating between full height and half height of the railing. On the right wing of the building there are two windows up and two down, shutters closed. A single door leads into the porch on the upper floor. The second floor windows facing into the porch are arched, with louvered shutters to match. The first floor windows facing into the porch are rectangular, with rectangular louvered shutters. A double door on the first floor is capped by a transom window with six lights in two horizontal rows. The pillars of the first floor are badly in need of paint. There are approximately 35 young men in two rows of 17 each. 3 officers stand widely spaced in front of the group and one other young man stands behind the group on the left. The men in the rows have rifles with the butt resting on the ground; the 4 detached men have swords unsheathed with the point on the ground. Everyone but the 3 young men in the front have plain uniforms with contrasting fabric on the edges and down the outside seam of the trousers. There are CHS pins on the standing collars of their jackets. The officers in front have more elaborate uniforms. All the men are wearing hats and gloves. There are trees and large bushes visible to the right.
