Scope and Content

1 folded sheet ; 8 1/2" x 11" Two copies on a bright yellow sheets folded in half have a "framed" area 7 3/16"h x 4 1/4"w. There are four "frames" of text on each copy. At the head of the text is "SMCHS." The text is in heavy black Gothic printing explaining that Mrs. Chase had given the coin, a denarium, to the Society by 1957. The coin has been appraised twice in its history, but there was strong opposition to selling it. In 1998, the Society loaned the coin to Historic St. Mary's City to be displayed there. An inexact replica of the coin was made as a fund raiser at the time of the 350th anniversary of Maryland in 1984 and sold by the state committee for the celebration. Kennedy Abell signed the text and included a grainy photocopy of the coin at the bottom of the final page.
