Scope and Content

1 folder ; 9 5/8" x 14 3/4" Every collection has to have a miscellaneous folder. No date 1850s era blue lined paper 12"h x 7 1/4"w with 19 Latin exercises or perhaps an examination with 19 parts. No date Two scapulars, one with an M in the middle with a crown hovering above and saints on the side, and one of a standing Virgin Mary. They were printed on inexpensive paper that someone had backed with pieces of heavy paper cut from a ledger. The papers were hand sewn together with embroidery thread--brown for the M and pink for the Virgin. Elaborate lace or crochet work formed a frame for each piece. Both were then sewn to a sheet of paper that has been attacked by vermin. No date Application of Thomas G. Stone for a position in the federal government hospital for the insane, presumably St. Elizabeth's in Washington. Stone wanted Mr. Camalier to vouch for him and sent Camalier the form so he could fill in the blanks. Since the form is still here, it would seem that Mr. Camalier did not respond. No date This is likely the second sheet of a larger letter. It was on German Beneficial Union letterhead and had something to do with lobbying for a state road into southern Maryland. John D. Abel signed it. No date Two different statements about the boundaries of Forrest Hall. Each comes up with 150 acres more or less. Mrs. Billingsley was planning to sell a portion to Leon Dubois. June 24 [no year] On a 8 7/8"w x 7 1/4"h sheet, folded, Captain Richard Courtney said he had retrieved his son from jail. He wanted Mr. Camalier to send the son a letter basically reading the young man the riot act about drinking and abusing his father. There is a scribble in the corner that may mean Camalier did send a letter. No date Communication from Franklin Weems, secretary of the Maryland Tobacco Growers Association when he sent a copy of the "Official Classification of Maryland Leaf Tobacco." Sadly, that is not present. Members were exhorted to play by the rules when they stripped and packed tobacco. This sheet is very poor quality paper and has been severely compromised by mice. No date Two copies of the note form for First National Bank of St. Mary's at Leonardtown, Md. June 30-July 3, 1902 6 3/16"w x 3 1/2"h brown booklet about the Congress Hall resort hotel in Ocean City, with rates for the State Teachers' Association convention stamped on the front, 8"h x 5"w cheap paper sheet announcing the dates of the convention, railroad fares and hotel rates, a program, also on cheap paper, for the convention, with a welcome session at 8pm on June 30th, and then meetings all day July 1 and 2 and the morning of July 3. Music was part of every meeting. The officers of the Association were listed on the back, including George W. Joy as vice president. March 6-7, 1905 12 1/2"w x 7 1/4"h folded to a four fold of 3 1/8" per panel on heavy paper and mailed to those interested in the State Farmers' Institute to be held in Leonardtown. Each panel had a thumbnail history of a speaker's farming experience and a head shot style photo. On the verso, one panel has a poem by Liberty Hyde Bailey, one has a statement about the Leonardtown Institute, and one panel lists all the Institutes for 1904-1905 which were held in January--March, presumably a farmer's downtime. The final panel is for a name, address and stamp. This was sent to B. Harris Camalier. [There is a record for a poster for the event in the Objects module.] March 4, 1908 Booklet 8 1/2"h x 5 7/8"w called "The Law of Subrogation in Maryland," published by Title Guarantee & Trust Company in Baltimore. It was sent to Mr. Camalier, who probably referred clients to the firm. April 11, 1908 On inexpensive letterhead paper, a note to Mr. Camalier from Hanline Brothers paint company in Baltimore. There was also a five panel folded paint chip catalog. Sadly, the flap of the envelope it came in was allowed to stay on the cover and the glue welded the flap in place. On the back cover, there is an interesting outline of Mercury running by with a paint brush and what looks like a lacrosse stick held aloft. July 28-29, 1908 Raffle ticket #481 for Cosmorama at the St. Aloysius Rectory. There were many prizes, including $20 in gold, a banjo, a case of roast coffee, two silk sofa cushions, an ice cream freezer, and $5 in gold. 1920s? Half sheet of letter paper that may have accompanied a copy of the annual report of the First National Bank of St. Mary's. The bank had its own building and 3500 pound steel safe. The bank paid 3% on savings accounts. November 18, 1924 Report of the inquest of the murder of Joseph Henry Ching. Twelve people were called to view the body. Dr. Frank A. Camalier functioned as the coroner for the case. Ching "Came to his death by a blow or blows inflicted with an instrument or instruments unknown, in the hands of a person or persons unknown to the said Jurors." The coroner was paid $5 and each juror received $1. However, these people were not paid until June 1925.
