The Tri-County Cooperative Extension Service offered a week long (Monday-Friday) craft and relaxation experience called Camp Cachasama at Camp Maria on Breton Bay. The camp began in 1971. The camp's name incorporates the names of the southern Maryland counties CA [Calvert] CHA [Charles] SA [Saint] MA [Mary's] Attendees stayed in log cabins on the property, which were not air-conditioned, with a pool, bicycles, and canoes available. Instructors provided classes in marbelizing, quilting, doll making, pen and ink work, etc. The instructors were from several Maryland counties; one was from Virginia. Campers came from most of the Maryland counties; one camper was from Virginia. Montgomery County was heavily represented. This program continued well into the 1990s.Collection
