11"h x 8 1/2"w portrait oriented reproduction of a color photo of Gerard Soest's painting of Cecil Calvert, second Lord Baltimore. Lord Baltimore lived from about 1606 to 1675. In the portrait, Cecil Calvert was standing next to a table that was draped in red fabric with a large-brimmed black hat resting on the table top, much like the portrait of his father. Cecil had dark hair that appeared to be his own, not a wig, and his face was sad and care-worn. He had a dramatic nose. He had a simple white collar on a rich looking gold garment that reached just below his knees and a black or deep purple coat over that. There were fringes on bands below his knees and on his shoes. He held a map of Maryland in his right hand, sharing that duty with his small grandson, Cecil. The youngster had on a white cap and a long dress with a red belt. An African servant was on the left edge of the portrait, keeping watch over his small charge. It is a striking image.
