The award has been kept in its original box that has a medium red cover with "Edwin W. Beitzell, 28" stamped in 1/8" gold letters 3 3/8" from the right edge and 3/4" from the bottom edge of the top. A number "5" was scratched into the middle of the cover and then underlined, probably to help the person presenting the boxes. The bottom half of the box is plain white. The Alumni Achievement award was presented to Mr. Beitzell on March 17, 1954 at the 4th annual awards luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.. The presentation binder is dark blue leatherette with silver print. 3 1/2" from the top and centered left to right is the Georgetown University seal 11/16" in diameter in silver. 4 1/2" from the top and centered left to right is "Georgetown University Alumni Club" in 1/4" silver upper case letters and centered under that is "Washington, D.C." in 3/16" silver upper case letters. 3/4" from the bottom edge and 3 3/4" from the right edge is "Edwin W. Beitzell, '28" in 3/16" silver upper case letters. The upper half of the interior is covered with light blue-gray satin and the citation on the lower half is held in place by blue ribbons on each corner: "The Georgetown University Alumni Club of Washington, D.C., proudly conscious of the distinguished services rendered by the sons of Georgetown to our country, our city, and our alma mater bestows its annual Alumni Achievement Award for 1954 on Edwin W. Beitzell, '28." Centered above the text is a slightly skewed photo of the seal of the University mounted on a wooden shield.
Stored inside the award are: an 8"x10" black and white photograph of the awardees (Mr. Beitzell is 2nd from the left in the front row) all identified on the back; the program for the luncheon, 10 11/16"h x 14"w in light gray heavy paper, folded once to be 7"w and a deckled edge on the right. All the print is navy blue and the University seal is in blue also, centered top to bottom and left to right. The menu was inside left and the program inside right, with brief biographies of 8 honorees on the back cover. The list is in alphabetical order, so Mr. Beitzell is listed first; a letter of congratulations from Harold Fangboner; a letter of apology for not being able to attend the luncheon by Father Bunn, president of Georgetown at the time; a clipping from the Washington Star for March 18, 1954 about the honorees; a clipping from the Washington Star of March 11, 1954 with a small item about the awardees buried in an article about St. Patrick's Day; place card 3 3/16"w x 2 1/4"h with a shamrock and rose for decoration; and ticket #73 to the luncheon which cost $2.75.Collection
