3 1/2"h x 5 1/4"w sepia tone photo of Chaptico School. This is a side view of the building. On the right is the original schoolhouse and on the left is the addition. Each portion is elevated on blocks; the space underneath is open. Both buildings have clapboard siding. Both buildings have a gable roof; the roof on the right is dark shingles and the one on the left is light colored and may be metal. About one quarter of the way back from the right gable end is a gable roof cupola with a bell. A small chimney is near the eaves, about a quarter of the way from the joint of the buildings. Three large six over six double hung windows with shutters were on the wall of the original building and five large twelve over nine double hung windows were in the addition. There was a door into each building where the buildings came together; a wide stairway of five steps led down to the yard. Children were standing in both doors. There was a woodpile on the left between two trees.
