Charger for Cafe des ArtistesEntry/Object ID
2016.018.0002Description
10 3/4"diameter charger from Cafe des Artistes in Leonardtown, Md. on the corner of Washington and Fenwick Streets. The restaurant was open from 1999 to 2016 and was much beloved. Most of the menu was influenced by French cuisine, but Loic paid close attention to local tastes and included crab cakes and other local seafood when available.
Loic Jaffres was the chef. His brother, Stephane, worked with him, as did David Donnells, who was Karleen Jaffres' son. Karleen ran the front of the house.
The charger is bright white with a 1 3/4" rim. The outside edge has a medium green line and the inside edge has a narrower green line. An adhesive label is in the well: the elaborate black text for the name of the restaurant "Cafe des Artistes Leonardtown, MD" follows the curve of the well. In the center of the label is a 3" slightly curved piano keyboard with a small red rose just left of center.
On the verso there is a 1 3/8" diameter hall mark for "Gastronomie arcopal" with two tiny raised maker's marks below. There is a raised word "arcopal" on an outside edge of the well, a similar "France" and "26" as well. There is also a dab of green paint, but that is a mistake; it was not done on purpose.Collection
