Scope and Content

1 vol. ; 9 7/8" x 11 1/2" x 7/8" This album was a black faux leather binder with a black spine and stitching at the edges. There was no printing or decoration on the exterior. It was identified as "Ful-Vu 33-B11, Camden, N.J." on the lower inside corner of Cover P. 3. Cover P. 2 had a partial pocket and Cover P. 3 had a full pocket. There was nothing in either pocket. The spiral rings were half an inch in diameter, but pages could not be added or removed. There was a total of twenty-two leaves of black and buff paper. The contents were largely newspaper articles about various Fenwick family members. These articles were in very bad condition, and after photocopying, were not retained. The book was not retained either. The oldest article, unfortunately incomplete, was a list of persons who owed taxes in St. Mary's County in 1822, as published in the Federal Republican. This is followed by a lengthy article about the county in the September 18, 1927 Sunday Baltimore Sun. A ledger page shows the account A. Simms Fenwick with the St. Mary's Beacon for advertising and the printing of handbills, etc. The January 2, 1909 edition of The Pilot had a article about Bishop Fenwick's founding of the first Catholic newspaper in Boston and considerable information about the Bishop's life. In the Sunday Washington Star of March 7, 1926, the "Rambler" begins a multi-part series about the Fenwicks of Maryland and the District of Columbia. A publication called The Acolyte, in its April 10, 1926 issue, reproduced the eulogy to Bishop Fenwick on his death in Boston.
