The material was in a brown leatherette padded presentation binder. Its rings were gold colored and the binder was lined in brown satin. The cover had three framing lines in gold at 3/8", 5/16", and 1/4" from the outside edge. Sotterley was in 2 5/16" letters in a "gothic" style lettering 3 1/2" from the top of the cover, 3 3/4" from the spine, 3 3/16" from the outside edge and 7 1/2" from the bottom of the cover. Sotterley was in 2" letters on the spine, 4 1/2" from the top and 5" from the bottom. Unfortunately, the binder was in musty condition and not retained.
The contents was the study of Sotterley prepared for the Historic American Buildings Survey, Library of Congress, published by the Sotterley Mansion Foundation, Inc. in 1961. After an introduction were 21 pages of text about the history and architecture of the building. There were also forty photographs of the building and grounds; these will be fully described in the Photographs section of this database. Loose in the back of the binder were several letters that were part of Mr. Fenwick's participation on the board. These were placed in Mr. Fenwick's file on Sotterley. There were other photos of the mansion that were not part of the survey; these were incorporated into Mr. Fenwick's photo collection.Collection
