This two volume set contains two black pebble surfaced binders with piano hinges on each spine edge and one and one-quarter inch rings. The binders are lined with black cloth. Each cover has two smooth indentations 3/4" and a scant 1/4" inch from each edge. The title is stamped in gold on the front of each binder in capital letters 3/16" high. Line 1: "An Historic Tour Of" is 4 3/16" from the top and 3 3/8" from the spine. Line 2: "St. Mary's County, Maryland" is 4 5/8" from the top and 2 7/8" from the spine. Line 3: "No. 1" or "No. 2" is 5 3/8" from the top and 4 3/4" from the spine. The contents of each binder were approximately 1 1/4" thick. The binder was identified on Cover [P. 3] as WJ (Wilson Jones) Ring Binder, metal hinges, black imitation leather, 344-34LH. These would appear to be very expensive binders. The contents began with a title page:
An Historic tour of St. Mary's County, Maryland / compiled by Charles E. Fenwick, Leonardtown, Md., 1953 & 1954. This page was followed by a single index page on which the pictures were listed alphabetically by name. The pictures begin on page one, picture 1. and progress to page 75, picture 223. with some numbering errors. In book No. 2, the contents begin with page 76, picture 224 through to page 95. There are two page 95s, but the picture numbering runs correctly to p. 112, picture 363. There is a blank page and then the page numbers begin again at page 1, picture 364 and progress to page 23, picture 439. The handwriting is somewhat different in this group; I believe it is the same person, but the penmanship is less sure. All the pages were photocopied, but because the photographs were on bad black paper, they were removed from that paper and stored individually in Photo Box 5. The binders were retained, but the photocopied pages are stored separately from the binders.Collection
