May 9, 1861 Letter from James Andrew Jackson at the Culpeper Virginia Court House to his brother Albert in Georgetown, D.C. James Andrew had just been mustered into service in the Confederate Army. He was excited about the prospect before him. He asked his brother if the "black republicans" had taken possession of "the College." Might he have meant Georgetown College? He signed the letter "Andrew Jackson" which is probably the name he used in civilian life.
There was no envelope with this letter. An attempt at a transcription is included.
