Scope and Content

1 sheet ; 11 1/8" x 8 3/8" This sheet is pale brown with barely discernible blue ruling. The original sheet of 11 1/8" x 8 3/8 " was folded down to 2 1/2" x 4 3/16" to fit in its envelope and there it stayed for many years. October 29, 1864 Letter from James A. Jackson to his brother Albert Jackson. James thanked his brother for a gift of money and asked if their mother could provide him a suit of gray clothes so he would not freeze to death during the winter. The ink on the paper is very faint. There was an envelope with this letter. Someone had written a tiny 4 in a circle near the postmark. An attempt at a transcription is included. ************************************* Text on verso of the envelope: "Brother Andrew at Point Lookout Md. October 29th 1864"
