July 27, 1865 Letter from James A. Jackson to his mother. He said he had sent three letters with no response, so this letter would be sent to Culpeper Court house. James was living in Madison County. He asked for a black suit, silk vest, hat and shoes so he would have a Sunday suit. He wanted his sister to make him two shirts and for Albert to provide the collars.
There was no envelope with this letter. Someone had written a tiny 2 in a circle on a blank panel of the letter. An attempt at a transcription is included.
