Scope and Content

1 sheet ; 12 3/16" h x 15 1/16" w John Dansey was evidently a man of considerable wealth, but no male heir. He left his property and most of his estate to his brother Robert Dansey. If Robert had no male heirs, the property was to be sold and the proceeds divided between the male heirs of two women who may have been his daughters. He left slaves to Robert and to a Mary Greenfield, with Mrs. Greenfield to receive other property as well. He directed Robert to repay John's wife's dowery to her if she would renounce her third of the estate. An annuity was provided for an elderly woman, provision was made for the poor, and money left to the Poplar Hill Church for communion plate. He seemed to want to control the future, generally a futile exercise. There is a photocopy and an attempt at a transcription in the folder.
