Scope and Content

3 sheets ; 14" h x 8 1/2" w There is only a photocopy of the document. It seems to be something like a title search done in 1805 for land in Medley's Neck. The indenture between John Shircliffe and James Boyd was drafted on March 4, 1723/4. For 5,500 pounds of tobacco, Shircliffe sold Boyd a parcel of one hundred acres more or less on land formerly granted to John Nun. The indenture was witnessed by A. Thompson, John Ross and Peter Shercliff. Anne Shercliff was examined by two of his Lordship's justices and said she agreed to the sale, so the indenture was recorded. This was followed by a statement by Benjamin Young as to the authenticity of the copy made September 23, 1768 for Robert Manning. This was followed by a brief statement, like an abstract, of the March 4, 1723/4 deed. This abstract makes it sound like the 100 acres was bordered by John Nun's land, rather than being part of John Nun's land. Reference was then made to the same land deeded by James Boyd to William Cummings in 1726. Reference was then made to the same land deeded by William Cummings to Cornelius Manning in 1733. The next paragraph said in 1649 John Shircliffe appealed [to the proprietor] for 100 acres, in 1734 Cornelius Manning obtained a warrant for resurvey and in 1737 the survey was registered, but there were only 83 acres at that time. The final paragraph asks the reader to remember that on December 20, 1805 personally appeared and then the photocopy ends. The folder an attempt at a transcription.
