This document was folded in half horizontally and then folded again to end up in four panels.
Captain Ignatius Manning and a sailor, Jeremiah Downs, appeared before Robert Johnson, a notary in Anne Arundell county, to depose on the circumstances of the loss of the schooner Non Pareil. The ship left Piscattaway, on the Potomac River, bound for Baltimore, but was forced onshore at Tally's Point at the mouth of the Severn River by a storm. Try as they might, the captain and mate were unable to prevent the loss of the ship and its cargo. This deposition was taken in part to notify the insurance company of the loss. There is a red wax seal near the notary's signature. There is a photocopy and an attempt at a transcription in the folder.Collection
