1 leaf ; 14 7/8"h x 12"w I believe this says that John Shirtcliffe wrote his will on December 2, 1661, but it was not proved until March 26, 1663. "March 26, 1663" is written at the beginning of the will, but I believe that was added later. John left 300 acres of land and all the buildings, etc. to his wife Ann for her natural life, after which the property devolved to his son John. John was given other land in the interim, a younger son William also received land, a daughter Mary received land, a daughter Anne received land, and a cousin Thomas Spalding received land. If anyone died without heirs, the Catholic Church would receive the land allotted to that person. His wife, Ann, was named executrix, to be assisted by Henry Spink and Peter Mills. On the verso, Shirtcliffe signed the document on December 2, 1661, witnessed by Edward Clark, Edmund Smith, and Leonard Green. The will was presented to the registrar on March 26, 1663. Mrs. Shirtcliffe was directed to bring an inventory by the end of June, with William Assistor and William Tetershale serving as appraisers. The transactions were recorded in Liber 1, folio 172 on May 27, 1774. I have no idea why there was such a delay. There is a photocopy and an attempt at a transcription in the folder.
