This booklet was published by the Maryland Department of Information in Annapolis in February, 1957. It is a reprint of an essay published in 1949 by the Committee for the 300th Anniversary of the Maryland Act of Religious Toleration. Mr. Johnson calls his essay an interpretation of the Act. He gives a history of religious toleration in the Maryland colony and discusses the physical condition of the Act itself, as held by the Maryland Historical Society, and offers insights into the effect of the Act on our country. There is a portrait of George Calvert (1580?-1632), a two page photo of the Act, and a portrait of Cecilius Calvert (1606-1675). Pages 12-15 are a transcription of the Act.
