Charles E. Fenwick Collection--Miscellaneous--Map of the Washington & St. Mary's RailroadEntry/Object ID
1995.001.0821Description
1 sheet ; 19"w x 24"h
This map shows part of New Jersey, part of Pennsylvania, Maryland as far west as Harpers' Ferry, and Virginia to Norfolk and slightly west of Richmond and Purcellville and all of Delaware. Although the focus of the map is the Washington & St. Mary's Railroad, several other regional railroads are depicted as well, such as the Delaware, Maryland & Virginia Railroad on the eastern shore. The map is much larger than is required, but the promoters were probably trying to interest investors in the possiblities of connecting to several population centers. The "Reference" information is out in the Atlantic Ocean. A projected line is represented by a pencil thin solid black line, a completed line is represented by a heavy solid black line, and a graded line is represented by a heavy dotted line. 4" equals 50 miles. There is no information on the verso of the sheet. An 8 1/2" x 11" version of this map was used in General Hogaboom's Chronicles article on this railroad.Collection
