Scope and Content

1 folder ; 14 3/4" x 9 3/4" This folder contains material about Saint Mary's City gathered by Mr. Fenwick. There are several articles about the city and the journey to its shores, folders about the city, and a copy of an option contract by which Mr. Hogaboom, Mr. Fenwick, Mr. Holger, Mr. Dodge, Mr. Loker and Mrs. Mersell purchased a plot of the original city land to hold until the state could get the money to buy it for the park. There are maps of the boundaries of the original city. In 1970, a bill was introduced in the House of Delegates to order the creation of a shrine of tolerance in the city. There is a folded set of handwritten notes about the trip taken by the Society of Natives of the District of Columbia in 1934 to hold a meeting in the brand new replica statehouse, plus newspaper articles about the adventure. In addition, there is a copy of the report of a select committee of the House of Delegates in the 1841 session about the state accepting one of the cannons from the early city to be installed in or near the State House in Annapolis.
