This scrapbook records the visit of the U.S. Navy and the public to St. Clement's Island in 1958 to commemorate the 40th year of the Navy's management of the island. The binder included six photographs of the ceremony, a copy of a news article, and part of a letter discussing contributions to the effort to have the island made into a sanctuary honoring the first settlers of Maryland. There was also a biography of Huldah Hoag Bonwill, a relative of the Duke family of southern Maryland. It is not clear why this letter was in the scrapbook.
