1 page ; 9 5/8"h x 15 3/8"w This is one of 25 individual pieces found in the courthouse trash by G. Frank Wathen and given by him to J. Allan Coad, who subsequently gave them to Mr. Fenwick. The archivist found the documents folded and bundled together at the bottom of a carton that was part of Mr. Fenwick's collection; some of the pieces are so frail, it is a miracle they survived. This sheet was completely broken in two, but the writing indicated it had been one sheet at the start. There is a deposition taken from William Woodward in August 1844 by Stephen Gough in which Woodward swears he has been an agent for the heirs of Samuel DeButts for the land on which he stands for more than 23 years, paying the taxes and renting the property during that time. A second deposition was made by Archibald Price showing one boundary tree for land owned by the DeButts family. The third part of the sheet contains a list of people present at a survey of the property?, including attorneys, pole carriers and chain carriers. As usual, all this is difficult to decipher.
