Scope and Content

1 sheet ; 12 1/4"h x 15 3/4"w This is one of 25 individual pieces found in the courthouse trash by G. Frank Wathen and given by him to J. Allan Coad, who subsequently gave them to Mr. Fenwick. The archivist found the documents folded and bundled together at the bottom of a carton that was part of Mr. Fenwick's collection; some of the pieces are so frail, it is a miracle they survived. George H. Morgan, in his capacity as trustee, petitioned the Circuit Court for an order to invest the funds ($1800) generated by the sale of three Negro slaves, Caroline (30 years), Sophia (10 years), Henry (7 years), to benefit Mary Julian Fowler. Morgan asked to use $400 to outfit a farm for Mary and her children and to invest the balance in a safe, but appreciating, security. The Court so ordered, requiring a report on the chosen investment.
