Entry/Object ID

Scope and Content
8 sheets ; 13"h x 8 1/2"w
This is one of 25 individual pieces found in the courthouse trash by G. Frank Wathen and given by him to J. Allan Coad, who subsequently gave them to Mr. Fenwick. The archivist found the documents folded and bundled together at the bottom of a carton that was part of Mr. Fenwick's collection; some of the pieces are so frail, it is a miracle they survived.
Ida Wright Blakistone petitioned the court to chose someone to examine the case of the 1862 sale of several pieces of property that included Wheatley's Content for which a clear title was not delivered. Fifty-five years later, this clouded title was hampering the sale of the property and she wanted to have the matter cleared. This piece is typed, not handwritten. Text on the title panel of the wrapper: "In the Circuit Court of Saint Mary's Co. in Equity Ignatius Heard vs. James M. Wilkinson et al. Petition of Ida Wright Blakistone. Mr. Clerk: Please file and issue as prayed Wm. Meverell Loker and James Thomas, Solicitors for petitioner ... June 15, 1916"
