Description

This seems to be another attempt at an index after it became apparent that the first book would not be large enough. The book is 14 1/8"h x 8 3/4"w x 3/4" thick. It has a black pebbled cover with a dark maroon spine and dark maroon corners. At one time there was a label glued on the front cover, but that has been removed along the way. On the spine there are five sets of two plain dark gold lines, although the top set has nearly worn away. At the bottom of the spine in dark gold letters and numbers "773 S. E. U. [illegible]" Inside front cover: in upper left corner "RON / 195" in the center the logo of the National Book Co. "National No. 773" and a tick on the listing of ledger varieties at "S.E. Ledger with index, units" and about one third of the way from the bottom edge, in pencil "1432 surveys in 31 years" Heavy protective sheet: on verso in black fountain ink at the top "Note I have 7 books viz. Books A, B, C, D, E, F, + GH" Loose in between pages: commercial form from the Hirshberg Company in Baltimore, credit for a returned pantograph, a blank commercial form from M. L. Himmel & Sons, a folded sheet of yellow legal paper with a very rough pencil drawing of a piece of unnamed property with $75 circled--perhaps an estimate for a survey First page: At the top in black fountain ink "General Index To Charles A.
