Scope and Content

1 box 16" x 13" x 10" The first diary covers 5 years--1979-1982. There are five "slots" on each page, one for each year. Mrs. Adams was very good about entering weather and domestic details and the names of people she talked to during the day. There is a separate small book for 1979 for which the entries are less consistent. I think she also tried to use it again for 1984, when her mind was going. There is a notebook that is mostly historical information with notes made from 1979 to 1983 in a random fashion. There are also domestic details in this notebook. There are books for 1980 and 1981 that are quite consistently kept, in addition to the five-year diary. The last notebook has 1983 written on it in an unknown hand; I am inclined to believe that date is incorrect and the book was actually used later. It has a few clumsy entries and torn pages giving evidence of how sad her life was at that point. There is a separate daybook that was probably kept by Mr. Adams, perhaps when he was in the Navy. It appears to be class notes and other notes about navigation, mathematics, and general knowledge. The handwriting is very meticulous. The book is in poor physical condition.
