Carte-de-visite 4"h x 2 3/8"w of a young woman. Mr. Fenwick first wrote "Alethea Greenwell Spalding Fenwick" on the verso of the card, but in the album she was called "Charlotte Spalding Fenwick". She is looking into her right distance. Her hair is close to her head on the sides. She has elaborate curls on her forehead and three rectangular mounds of hair front to back on the top of her head. She has pierced ears with a rather substantial earring visible. Her mouth is straight and unsmiling. She has on a dark dress with many pleats on the bodice and an elaborate lace fichu at her throat. A large cross on a chain is visible on the lace. The card has a dark brown base, with a beige background for the sepia tone photo. It is a rectangle and glued to the card. Mr. Fenwick gave dates for Charlotte Fenwick as 1822-1900.
This carte-de-visite is from the Photographic Art Company of Washington, D.C. They have a gold name and logo on the verso of the card.
This piece was in the upper right corner of page 1 of the dark red photograph album.Collection
