Description

3 1/2" x 5 3/4" black and white photo of Cherry Hill from the other end of the house. The Maryland Historical Trust Inventory of Historic Sites in Southern Maryland lists two Cherry Hill sites in Charles County, one of which has completely collapsed and one which does not look like this house at all. This photo is of a house that is two stories on one end and story and a half on the other end. There had been several additions to the building, each with its own roof line. The near half of the house had a long sloping standing seam roof that included a closed shed roof for porches on each side. The gable end looked a little like a witch's hat. There were two windows into the upper floor of the gable end. If there were windows on the first floor, they were not visible in the photo. The clapboard siding did not appear to have been painted. The three bay porch on this side of the house had a center door and at least one window on each side; the view was obscured by bushes. Between the two halves of the house was a pair of chimneys. The roof on that part of the house was black and there were two different rooflines. There was an outside end chimney on the other end of the house. Next to the aforementioned porch was a two story section with a large four light window on each floor. Beyond this was a set back section with one four light window. The first floor was a one story addition that had a four light window. The entire house was supported on posts or piles of masonry at strategic locations. The siding was clapboard in poor repair. There was a very simple wire? fence to create a small yard around the house.
