Description
6"h x 8 1/8"w photo of Christmas dinner at the encampment of the Maryland First Volunteer Infantry Regiment. The soldiers were in a barrack, seated on benches at long tables covered with oil cloths; the photographer was in an aisle between rows. The image was not improved by bright spots caused by the sun streaming in the windows of the building. Christmas wreaths were hanging on roof joists and at the windows. There was lots of food on the tables and plenty of beer bottles. The men on the right appeared to be very young. Mr. Duke was a member of Company I.
