Description

This was Claude Hayden's wallet. It is black leather, very worn. In the back was a full-length opening for bills with a full length divider. On the left was a snap closure for five plastic card sleeves and a heavier plastic holder for two spare keys. Under the sleeves was a pocket with a leather "frame" and a plastic cover for an identification card. There were three holes in the snap to allow for a smaller or larger collection of cards. On the right were two leather pockets for other cards or pieces of paper. There was only one mark on the piece: stamped in gold on the lower right corner of the snap closure was "Buxton Convertible." Wallet Contents: 1. Very small (1 7/8" x 1 7/8") color photo of Mr. Hayden in dark trousers, a white short-sleeved shirt, a bow tie, and a cigarette hanging out of his mouth with a dark-haired woman hanging on his left arm. She had on a light-colored generous tunic and light brown trousers. The people were outdoors, probably in someone's yard. In ball-point ink on the verso "July 1976." 2. Very small (1 7/8" x 1 7/8") color photo of Mr. Hayden in dark trousers, a white short-sleeved shirt, a bow tie, dark glasses, and a cigarette hanging out of his mouth with three women, all leaning against the back of a Chevrolet, I think, brown below and a black vinyl top. The woman on the left had brown hair, glasses, and used a metal cane. She had on a light-colored sack dress. The woman in the middle had very light hair, glasses, and wore a dark dress with a white collar. She carried a large beige purse and wore white sandals. The woman next to Mr. Hayden had dark hair, glasses, and had on a light colored tunic and brown trousers. One of these women was probably Mr. Hayden's wife. In ball-point ink on the verso "July 1976." 3. Very small (1 7/8" x 1 7/8") color photo of Mr. Hayden in dark trousers, a white short-sleeved shirt, a bow tie, and a cigarette hanging out of his mouth next to a woman with brown hair. She had on a voluminous light colored dress, white sandals, and used a cane. They were outdoors, probably in the same place as the first picture. In ball-point ink on the verso "July 1976." 4. Small ( 2 1/4" x 1 1/4") color school picture of Doug, no last name, who was in the 6th grade in 1983-1984. He had lots of dark brown hair in a bowl cut, blue eyes, and a generous mouth. He wore an open placket shirt with white sleeves, light blue body, a blue and white striped pocket, and blue and white and brick red stripes on the sleeves. On the verso in fine point black ink, probably by the mother, "Mr. Hayden, Love, Doug 6th Grade 83-84" 5. Small (2 3/8" x 1 3/4") color school picture of Michele, no last name, who was in 9th grade in 1983-1984. She had brown hair, center part, gentle waves, shoulder length, wore large glasses, had a simple neck chain and wore a knit top with lavender, white, and yellow stripes. On the verso, in black ink "Mr. Hayden Love, Michele Grade 9 83-84" 6. Small (2 1/2" x 1 3/4") color school picture of Michele, no last name, who was presumably in 10th grade in 1984-1985. She had brown hair, center part, gentle waves, shoulder length, no glasses. She had on an aqua and pink striped knit top. On the verso in blue ball point "Mr. Hayden '84-85'" 7. 2 3/6" x 3 3/8" Blue Cross/Blue Shield card effective January 1982 for Joseph C. Hayden. 8. Medicare A & B card (2 3/8" x 3 3/8") effective July 1966 for Joseph C Hayden. 9. Maryland driver's license ( 2 1/16" x 3 5/16") for Joseph Claude Hayden that expired October 1985. Mr. Hayden lived on Chingville Road at that time. The license photo was against a dark red background. The data on the license was on an unlovely shade of green. 10. Identification card that came with the wallet (2 5/8" x 3 5/8") that was white to begin with. Mr. Hayden filled it out in blue ballpoint ink. 11. Voter identification card (2 1/4" x 3 3/8") for Joseph Claude Hayden in District 2, precinct 1. He must have had the card for many years because it is very dirty. 12. Maryland Dept. of Transportation change of address card (2 1/2" x 3 5/8"). 13. Insurance card (2 3/16" x 3 3/8") listing George P. Wigginton of Nationwide Insurance as Mr. Hayden's agent. 14. Vehicle registration card (3 3/16" x 3 3/4") for a 1978 Plymouth. The registration expired on March 1983. The card is a salmon pink. 15. Temporary registration card (3" x 4 7/8") for a 1978 Plymouth bought in White Plains for $5510.
