Name/Title

Colored pew rents collected by Charles I. Russell years 1870-71 [photocopy]

Entry/Object ID

1970.001.0006

Scope and Content

2 sheets ; 14"h x 8 1/2"w This is a photocopy of 1970.001.0005. This sheet had been folded in half lengthwise and the title written at the top. When the sheet is opened "Colored pew rent Pd. for the year of 1870" is written on the top line. There are two columns under that, one for east side pews and one for west side pews. Those columns are further subdivided with the total owed on the far left, the pew number next, the name of the member and the amount paid. At the bottom of the 1870 list, it is noted that Mr. Mattingly collected $34.75 from all the church members. Next is the 1871 list in like fashion, but the pay record is much less complete. There are notes at the bottom about persons who paid in 1868 and 1869. When the document is folded back up, there is considerable figuring in pencil and pen on that side of the paper.
