Anne Darnall, of Baltimore, apparently held the Michael Brown Carroll sword and a tray that may have belonged to the Brooke family.
June 11, 1959 Ms. Darnall wrote to Coad to say that she was not pleased with the information about the tray, but it was all a big secret that she would not tell him. If the St. Mary's County Historical Society wanted the sword, she would leave it at Legg's to be picked up. She was leaving town on a cruise.
June 16, 1959 She told Coad, for his eyes only, part of the story of the tray. She had sent it to the Maryland Historical Society to identify the crest on the tray. The Society sent a thank you letter for her donation, so she marched to the Society and took the tray back because it was not a donation. She ran through some genealogy, trying to figure out how her family ended up with the tray. Then she sold the tray. She had tried to get the sword scabbard repaired, but no luck. She would leave it at Legg's for pickup. In an addendum, she said she would try to get the tray back.
June 18, 1959 Ms. Darnall spoke with the Maryland Historical Society again and got a better understanding about the crest on the tray. She did get it back and planned to give it to the Maryland Historical Society. The sword would still come to the county.
